Welcome to the Deep South Class D Baseball Web Site.
The web site began in February, 1999 as a tribute to the forgotten heroes of Class D professional baseball in the Deep South, specifically the Wiregrass region of southeastern Alabama, Southwestern Georgia, and the Florida Panhandle. Class D baseball met it's demise in November, 1962, when Minor League Baseball reorganized into the Class structure we know today, but there is a rich history associated with the lowest level of the minors that hopefully will live on in the pages of this web site. So, please come in and look around.
Please send any news clippings, copies of photographs, personal memories, scrapbook entries, box scores, in short, anything related to the Alabama-Florida League or minor league and/or semi pro baseball in Alabama, Georgia, or the Florida Panhandle. This site's mission is to preserve the history of minor league baseball in the deep south. I am interested in any information, no matter how minor.
Help keep the memory alive!
THANKS !

Edd Hartness, a fixture at all the Moultrie reunions, was killed in a farming accident in April, of 2007. Edd, despite being well into his eighties, was still very active at the time of his passing. He was elected to the innaugural 2005 class of the Deep South Class D Hall Of Fame, and he provided a wide selection of historic memorabilia for each year's Moultrie Reunion. On behalf of Clint Chafin, John Bell, and myself, we send the Hartness family our deepest sympathies. Read about Edd in the Profiles Section.

New for 2008
I've been very busy with work, and life in general, But I've begun to put some new updates on the web site:
Walt Zebrowski sent a great scrapbook collection which I have been slowly building. Check out what's been posted so far in the Special Collections section.
Jonathan Cole sent a picture of the 1931 Apalachicola Semi-Pro team, which I've temporarily posted to the right. Once I rebuild the Team Photo section, it will be housed there.
The biggest reason for the slowdown on updates is I've been working on the All-Time AFL Register spreadsheet. I've completed the 1st pass through all the data, which means that the rough draft is just about ready. There will be an online version of the register, and I'm thinking about publishing a print version, if there is enough interest. My concept of what the register will be is less emphasis on sterile statistics, and more emphasis on player profile and interesting facts. I welcome your suggestions, comments, etc. Projected ready date: July 2008
Thanks to all for the pictures and scrapbook data - I promise it will all be on the web site eventually.
Thanks
Scott
