2004 Moultrie Reunion
The Home Of The Alabama-Florida League

Well, the 2004 Moultrie Reunion is now history, and if you missed it, you missed the best reunion yet.  We had our biggest crowd to date and everyone had a great time.  Furman Bisher, legendary columnist for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution joined us and talked about his  more than 50 year tenure as a Georgia  sportswriter.  The guest speaker for Saturday evening was Paul Hemphill, author of Long Gone.  Paul gave us an entertaining look at his early attempt to become a ballplayer in the AFL. This year we also had a group of minor leaguers who all played college ball for the 1958  Auburn University team.  It was a double reunion of sorts for these guys, and more than a few  "War Eagle!"  calls were heard during the player get-together.  Minor League baseball also sent a representative and everyone got a great poster showing all the hats of the 2004 minor league teams. Friday included a golf tournament and a Home Run Derby.  The Derby was modified a bit:  The winner was the batter who got closest to the fence! Great fun was had and no minor leaguers were injured trying to relive past glory.

Clint Chafin, reunion organizer, works all year long to put on the event and he did a fantastic job.  John Bell and I assisted Clint, but he deserves all the credit for making the reunion a complete success.
