Admiral Mason Park - Pensacola, Florida
At the edge of Pensacola Bay once stood Municipal Stadium, also known as Admiral Mason Park. Long before McCovey Cove, A power hitter could lauch a home run ball into a bay with a mighty swat. What looks like a delightful park to take in a ballgame was, in fact, kind of a miserable place to watch baseball. Notice the buildings across the street on the first base side: That is a sewage treatment plant. A westerly breeze could choke even the most loyal fan. Also notice, no parking lots, except the small one right next to that sewage plant. Finally, what do you get when you mix a large body of water and dusky, humid summer evenings? Mosquitoes!! Nevertheless, many Pensacola fans have fond memories of this classic old park.
